Ingredient & Nutritional Questions
What is the calorie content of your product?
Keeping your pet healthy, happy, and at their ideal weight starts with making sure they get the right number of calories each day. Every pet is different, and their calorie needs depend on factors like age, size, and activity level.
You can find calorie information on most of our product packages to help you choose what’s best for your furry friend. If you don’t see the details you need, no problem! Just contact our Consumer Care team with the exact product name, and we’ll be happy to share the information with you.
Is there anything in your products not listed in your ingredients?
All ingredients used in our products are declared according to European feed regulations. Terms like "meat and animal derivatives" or "cereals" are legally compliant ingredient groupings. For more specific ingredient details beyond what's on the packaging, please contact our Consumer Care team who can provide additional nutritional information for specific dietary requirements.
What levels of Phosphorus are in your products?
Phosphorus is an essential mineral for your cat's health, including helping to keep their bones and teeth strong and playing a key role in giving them energy.
You can feel confident knowing that our cat food meets FEDIAF (The European Petfood Industry) nutritional guidelines, which set the standards for the ideal levels of essential nutrients for healthy pets.
Phosphorus levels may vary slightly due to natural differences in raw ingredients, but all our main meal products are carefully formulated to be complete and balanced, ensuring they meet both our internal standards and FEDIAF’s requirements. If your pet suffers from a disease and requires a diet low in phosphorus, then we would advise you to consult your Vet to find a prescribed diet formulated specifically for the nutritional needs associated with the disease.
How do I feed my pet with a health issue?
When feeding a pet with a health condition we would always recommend you first speak to your vet who can give you the best advice on the nutrition they need. If you have any additional questions, please get in touch with our Consumer Care team.
I need a recommendation on what food to feed
We have lots of options of foods to suit a range of cats' nutritional needs and preferences. Take a look through our product range using the drop down menu on our website, or the search bar if you're looking for something specific. Or get in touch with our Consumer Care team who would be happy to help if you need further advice.
Has your recipe changed?
We’re always looking for ways to make our products even better for your cat. That’s why we have recently changed recipes of Sheba Filets and Sheba Soup product. Now, all our seafood recipes carry trusted MSC and ASC certifications, so you can feel confident that all the fish we use comes from responsible sources. We’ve also updated some of our animal ingredients maintaining high quality, nutritional value and delicious taste they love. If you need further help, our Consumer Care team are happy to advise.
Do you offer senior food?
As cats age, they may experience changes in areas such as skin and coat condition, mobility, cognition, etc. Our recipes remain suitable for senior cats and support their overall wellbeing. In some cases, where specific needs develop, a tailored senior diet or veterinary-recommended dietetic feed may be considered.
What is the percentage of animal derived ingredients in your products?
In our portfolio, meat and animal derivatives and fish and fish derivatives content ranges from 91 to 99% in chunk for complete and balanced products.
Do your products contain sugar?
Sugar is added to some of our SHEBA® recipes at low levels as a natural colourant or to create roasted aromas. In these amounts, sugar is a perfectly safe ingredient for your cat.
Do you offer grain free recipes?
Our Kitten and Nature’s collection products do not contain grains in their ingredients. However, please note that our products are produced in a factory that handles grains. Traces of grains can therefore not be avoided.
Feeding & Usage Guidance
Can I feed my pet food for a different life stage?
It's generally safe to feed your cat food from a different life stage for a short period (a few days to a week). However, each life stage formula is specially designed to meet your cat's specific nutritional needs at that age so you should avoid feeding a product for a different life stage for longer than this.
How should I feed my kitten?
Cats naturally prefer to eat small, frequent meals throughout the day. For your kitten, it’s a great idea to serve wet food in the morning and evening, and leave out a measured amount of dry food for them to nibble on throughout the day and night. This way, your kitten can enjoy fresh wet food at mealtimes and have the option to snack on dry food whenever they feel hungry. This routine not only keeps your kitten happy and satisfied all day long, but also helps satisfy their natural feeding behaviour. Start by following the Feeding Guide on the packaging which is calculated based on the kitten’s age. Keep an eye on their growth and development, and if you notice any signs of excessive or insufficient weight gain, it’s best to check in with your vet.
Helpful tips:
1. If you have more than one kitten in your home, make sure each kitten has their own measured portion of food. Leaving access to a bowl of dry food could result in one cat eating too much and another eating too little.
2. You can also make mealtime more fun by using a puzzle feeder. It's a great way for your kitten to burn off some extra energy and channel their natural hunting behaviour.
Can I feed products past their use by date?
The best before date is when the food will remain to be at its best. It's safe to feed after this date but over time it just may not be as tasty and nutritious as it is during its recommended shelf life. We provide a best before date to help shops keep control of products on their shelves.
Can I mix wet and dry food?
Our wet, complete and balanced food provides everything your cat needs. However, your pet may enjoy a mixed diet, which can also offer certain benefits. Mixing our delicious Sheba wet food with your cat’s favourite dry food can help entice pets to eat, provide variety, increase enjoyment at mealtime, and supply an additional source of hydration—which is crucial for urinary tract health. If you choose mixed feeding, please be mindful of portion sizes to avoid overfeeding your cat. Always follow the feeding instructions provided on the packaging or on our website.
What feeding schedule should I follow?
Cats love to graze and enjoy eating small, frequent meals throughout the day- it's part of their natural behaviour! To keep your feline friend happy and healthy, try to reflect this in their daily feeding routine. For adult cats, offering 2–3 meals a day is ideal. Kittens, with their boundless energy and growing bodies, do best with 4 or more smaller meals spaced out from morning to night.
Our delicious, complete and balanced wet food provides everything your cat needs, and you can feed your four-legged friend wet food only. However, if you’re feeding a mixed diet, here’s a simple plan: serve a delicious portion of Sheba wet food for breakfast and dinner, and leave the right amount of your cat's favourite dry food in their bowl so they can nibble during the day and overnight.
Remember, every cat is unique! The perfect portion depends on their age, weight, and activity level. For tailored advice, check our feeding guides on the product packaging or visit our website. You can also reach out to our Consumer Care team- they’re always happy to help you find the best menu for your furry companion.
How should I store the food after opening?
Our food is made with natural ingredients, so keeping it fresh is important to preserve its taste and quality. If your cat does not eat the entire pouch or tray in one go and you divide the portion, please store the opened pack in the fridge for up to 48 hours. Before serving, remember to gently warm the food back to room temperature, ensuring it is beautifully palatable for your feline companion.
How do I introduce a new recipe or variety to my cat?
To switch your cat to a new food, gradually mix in more of the new diet over 7–10 days (longer if your cat has a sensitive stomach): Days 1–3: 25% new food, 75% old food. Days 4–6: 50% new, 50% old. Days 7–10: 75% new, 25% old, then transition to 100% new food. Monitor your cat’s stool, skin, weight, appetite, and energy. Contact your vet with any concerns, especially if digestive issues occur or your cat refuses to eat for more than 24 hours.
Why does my cat sometimes refuse to eat their food?
Cats may refuse to eat their food because they often crave variety in taste and texture, so offering different flavours and types can help. Make sure the food bowl is clean and your cat feels comfortable, as stress can lower their appetite. If your cat refuses meals for more than 24 hours or shows other symptoms, consult your vet promptly.
How much food should I feed my pet?
The exact amount of food depends on your cat's age, weight, and activity level. Please refer to our feeding guidelines on pack or on the product's page on our website for our guidelines on how much to feed your cat based on their needs. If you need further help working this out, our Consumer Care team are happy to advise.
