Here are a few recent films and shows we’ve loved…
-

Sex and the City
Ok, so we’ve seen all the episodes a million times, but we still love them – and miss them! Thankfully, Carrie and co came back one more time for what was one of the best films of the summer.
-

Lipstick Jungle
Based on the best-selling novel by Sex and the City author Candace Bushell, Lipstick Jungle is an excellent New York-set comedy-drama based around three high-powered women.
-

Tess of the D’Urbervilles
We loved the BBC version of Hardy’s tragic story. Beautifully shot and movingly acted, it’s best served with a big box of tissues and a very big cuddle from your cat.
-

Atonement
Based on the best-selling novel by Ian McEwan, Atonement is the critically acclaimed tale of a young girl who changes the lives of her older sister and her boyfriend with heartbreaking consequences. Stars the brilliant James McAvoy.
-

27 Dresses
With all the hallmarks of a pure romantic comedy, 27 Dresses is lots of fun with plenty of snappy dialogue. Katherine Heigl stars as Jane, a wedding-besotted personal assistant who’s always the bridesmaid and never the bride.
-

Mama Mia!
How could we resist you? Dancing Queen Meryl Streep had us singing in the cinema aisles, and now Mama Mia’s out on DVD we’ll be doing it in the living room too!
-

The Other Boleyn Girl
A bodice-ripping period drama with Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman as the ambitious sisters in the court of Henry VIII. Gripping stuff.
-

P.S. I Love You
This sweet tear-jerker stars Hilary Swank, devastated by the loss of her husband. Soon, she starts to receive letters from him as he helps her to rebuild her shattered life from beyond the grave.
-

The Kite Runner
Set in Afghanistan just prior to the takeover of the Taliban, the Kite Runner tells the story of two young boys from different castes whose childhood innocence is shattered by a terrible event. A story of tragedy, regret and, ultimately, redemption.
-

The Duchess
Keira Knightley is Georgina, Duchess of Devonshire, an 18th-century ancestor of Diana, Princess of Wales. A beautiful celebrity of her time, trapped in a loveless marriage, the Duchess – like her descendent – rebels against the establishment.
