We love nothing better than a little time out with a good book – cats within petting distance, of course.

  • The Time Traveler’s Wife – One of our favourite books

    The Time Traveler’s Wife
    by Audrey Niffenegger

A touching love story about a girl who meets and falls for a man suffering from a genetic condition that causes him to spontaneously time travel. As Henry is whipped through his past and future, Niffenegger explores the couple’s uniquely intense relationship.

  • The Memory Keeper’s Daughter – One of our favourite books

    The Memory Keeper’s Daughter
    by Kim Edwards

When a doctor gives up his newborn girl with Down’s, he asks his nurse to take her to an institution. Instead, she keeps and raises the baby herself. A memorable, eloquent tale of parallel lives and family secrets.

  • No Time for Goodbye – One of our favourite books

    No Time for Goodbye
    by Linwood Barclay

  • The Suspicions of Mr Whicher – One of our favourite books

    The Suspicions of Mr Whicher
    by Kate Summerscale

Based on a true story that inspired the likes of Charles Dickens and Arthur Conan-Doyle. Summerscale weaves meticulously researched facts into a gripping Victorian whodunit. Winner of the Samuel Johnson Prize for Non-Fiction.

  • This Charming Man – One of our favourite books

    This Charming Man
    by Marian Keyes

Four women, one man, one slightly implausible but highly entertaining plot. It’s a bit heavier than her usual books but it’s still a brilliant read that you’ll struggle to put down.

  • A Thousand Splendid Suns – One of our favourite books

    A Thousand Splendid Suns
    by Khaled Hosseini

We loved The Kite Runner, but Hosseini’s second novel is even better. Once again we’re transported to a vivid Afghanistan, where we follow the life of Mariam. Forced into a brutal marriage aged 15, Mariam’s tale of hardship is an engrossing study of the unbreakable human spirit.

  • The House at Riverton – One of our favourite books

    The House at Riverton
    by Kate Morton

This is a compelling page-turner that we loved getting lost in. As ninety-eight-year-old Grace recounts what really happened to a young poet at a beautiful country house, she reveals secrets kept hidden for 75 years. A thrilling mystery and love story all wrapped up together.

  • Then We Came to the End – One of our favourite books

Then We Came to the End
    by Joshua Ferris

A brilliantly funny and painfully recognisable tale of office politics within a failing advertising agency. It’s all told from a unique point of view which adds to the originality. Great.

  • The Handmaid’s Tale – One of our favourite books

    The Handmaid’s Tale
    by Margaret Atwood

It’s a few years old now, but this is a great modern classic. Set in the near future following a coup by an ultra-religious military, we follow our enslaved heroine Offred within the Republic of Gilead – the former United States.

  • Test Your Cat: The Cat IQ – One of our favourite books
